When We Are Sick

The human body is a miracle of life:
You are an orchestra of existence,
Separate yet unified.
Internal harmony, fighting external strife.

And the same is true of society,
We are but individuals, together.
Playing our own roles,
But to everyone’s benefit, you see.

We have taken the principle,
That life learned on its journey.
That alone, we are weak,
Together, we are invincible.

From the single cell,
The origin of ourselves,
To our bodies today.
We are the manifestation of this principle, can’t you tell?

But when our bodies are sick,
How do they react?
We work together,
And jump to attack.

We use our internal strength,
The combination of our parts,
To overcome any threat,
At whatever length.

Why then, do we not do the same:
When our society is sick?
Instead of working together,
We have fallen apart.

We see systems failing,
Things not going the way they should:
With our environment, our politics,
There is constant assailing.

Yet, we know what to do,
It is literally within us.
We are the solution,
Yet, we seem to not have a clue.

We, instead of coming together
To fight the dragon at the gate.
We have looked around,
And found plenty reasons to hate.

Someone’s politics,
Someone’s gender,
Someone’s wealth,
Someone’s status.

Yet as we fight within,
The world outside only gets bleaker.
And we become forever weaker,
Is this our deadly sin?

The world won’t fix itself.
And is this the world we want to leave,
For the children of tomorrow?
Would you be proud, or filled with sorrow?

We instead, must look to nature.
She has the answers we seek.
Our bodies provide they key:
We must help the weak.

We must pick each other up,
Use our strengths to bolster the rest,
Fill each other’s cup,
Have no resentment, for there is no one to detest:

But yourself.
For your body knows:
We are strong together.
The truth is under our nose.
